Ferrosilicon

Ferrosilicon
  • Introduction

Ferrosilicon is a crucial additive in various industries, particularly in metallurgical industries where it plays a significant role. It is an essential consumable in the production and refining of crude steel. Ferrosilicon is used as a source of silicon in the production of carbon steel, stainless steel, and other iron alloys for steelmaking and casting. Its deoxygenation properties help prevent the reduction of carbon in molten steel. In metallurgical industries, it is used as a germinator and deoxygenator, while in electronic industries, pure silicon is used as a semiconductor and rectifier.

The most important applications of ferrosilicon in the industry are as follows:

    • Carbon content of deoxygenation in steelmaking
    • Alloying element in the production of steel and cast iron
    • Nucleation in gray cast iron castings
    • Regenerative agents in the production of other ferroalloys
